“The main objective of this colloquia is to increase the students’ interests and motivations in the field of Science - Technology - Engineering - Mathematics, or better known as STEM. The lack of interests and motivations among the students in the field of STEM are now becoming a global issue, where Malaysia is no exception. This has caused quite an impact not only at the school level but at the university level as well. This can be seen from the decline in the number of students’ intake to the university in STEM-related studies, where the numbers are unable to fulfil the projections being made by the universities. If this trend continues, it will ultimately affect the country’s human capital in the future.”

"The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) will always be supporting and encouraging this ISICS programme, as it is in-line with the country’s Policy of Science, Technology and Innovation 2021-2030 (DSTIN), which is to produce competence and adaptive talents that are able to create and develop technologies which are relevant with the changes and need of the current environment."

“My first trip to Malaysia was in the 70s and, that was by invitation of my great friend Mahathir Mohamad. He wanted (at the time), to know from a whole bunch of other Muslim scientists what Malaysia would do so that we could develop a great deal of science and technology in the 70s, which was nearly 50 years ago. Indeed, watching what Malaysia has done, I salute him and all of you for what is happening in Malaysia. Malaysia gives a fantastic example of an Arab country, or a Muslim country, or for a developing country that could encourage its young men and women to train in technology and do very well and become as good as anybody else anywhere in the world. So, I salute all Malaysian science and technology individuals, and those who led the road to become this way. I am highly impressed by the preparation of ISICS programme for my lecture. All went very well, and audience reacted in an admirable way.”

The ISICS portrays an impressive line of motivational speakers who open the world of science to learners of all ages. The engagement of young students is particularly impressive as demonstrated by the penetrating questions they ask of the speakers. The seeds of scientific thought planted in those young minds by world renowned scientists and engineers will no doubt bear fruit as these young minds blossom into full blown thinkers and leaders of tomorrow. Keep up the good work and reap the harvest in future years.

“After exploring a bit on the web, I think ISICS is a wonderful program. The importance of STEM is of course well-known throughout the world and is emphasized by many government and educational programs. However, just stating that Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics are important, can be a bit dry and unexciting. I think the ISICS program is important because the colloquium series helps students see that practitioners of STEM, real people, find exciting and rewarding careers, where STEM is an important ingredient, but the personal excitement, enjoyment, and satisfaction from their work comes from the thrill of discovering, understanding, and explaining new phenomena.”
